Liverpool’s 27 year-old Spaniard is facing knee surgery. The left back made his Anfield return in last weeks 4-0 win against London club Fulham. Prior to last weeks fixture Enrique had been out for a month with knee trouble.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Jose will miss this weekends match against the Evertonians, he had this to say to Liverpool’s official website:

“It looks like he’ll probably need a small operation,” ”It’s disappointing because he’s been out for two months. We’ve tried ways to get him back, he’s still in pain.”

The $10 million dollar former Magpie has struggled with injury most of the season, appearing in only seven games this campaign.

Enrique has been a staple of the Liverpool back four two seasons.

Rodgers told Melwood reporters earlier today:

“The conclusion will be that he’ll need the operation and we’ll assess it from there. I just need to wait and see, wait to hear from our head doctor later on (Thursday), and we’ll get a better idea of how long that will be.”

The hole that is left in an already injury ridden back four will likely be filled by new loan Aly Cissokho. Cissokho was brought in on loan from Spanish side Valencia, he has played five games so far and looks promising.
