Dutch striker Klass-Jan Huntelaar has said that a possible move to Liverpool could happen as long as current club Schalke don’t offer him a new deal. The former Ajax and Real Madrid star has just one year left on his current contract with the German out fit and has become the latest in a list of stars to be linked with a move to Anfield.
“Regarding the rumours about Liverpool, it would only be fair to speak to Schalke first,” he told the De Telegraaf newspaper
“I’ve talked with Schalke about an extension for a while. After the World Cup I am having a holiday. Then I will speak to them again. I’m not talking with my agent about the interest from clubs right now. I’m fully focused on the tournament.”
It now remains to be seen how the talks with Schalke progress and whether Liverpool step up their interest again should negotiations stall.
At 30 years old you would normally say that he isn’t your typical Brendan Rodgers signing, but after the arrival of Rickie Lambert earlier in the season I am not really sure what a typical Rodgers signing is any more. Rodgers could be sounding out the experienced striker incase expected deals for Alexis Sanchez and Swiss star Shaqiri fall through. Huntelaar does come with in an impressive CV and his experience could prove valuable. He would come at a reasonable price but with contract negotiations still on going between him and Schalke I feel it is nothing more than a ploy to secure one last bumper deal.
But like I said Rickie Lambert caught us all off guard, so you never know.
