I had heard of Emre Can before he joined Liverpool. I had even seen him play a coupe of times but I have to say I wasn’t jumping for joy with the news that he was going to be the new lynchpin of our midfield for next season. I have heard all of the rumours of his tough tackling no nonsense nature and the comparisons to one of my favourite midfielders out there, Bastian Schweinsteiger, but I still couldn’t get all that excited by the move.
Former Liverpool captain, Sami Hyppia may have allayed my fears just a little though during an interview with the clubs official website www.liverpoolfc.com. Hyppia coached Can at Leverkusen and said that Liverpool fans should be excited by their latest signing.
“Emre is one of those players that always gives 100 per cent on the pitch. He is a very dynamic player and he is quite mature physically as well,” said King Sami.
“He is quite a technical player and he does the simple things perfectly, with 100 per cent concentration, and I think he will have a great career at Liverpool. With the work ethic he has, I know the Liverpool fans will love him. He needs to make this next step forward in his career and Liverpool is a great club for him to continue to improve.
“He’s also very skilful and he can play it very simple. I think he suits the Liverpool style of play and physically he can compete in the Premier League for sure.
“I was very happy for him to see him sign for Liverpool and I’m looking forward to watching him in the Premier League.”
It is always great to get the seal of approval off a former player. Lets just hope it’s not a Steven Gerrard comparing Joe Cole to Lionel Messi moment. God bless you Stevie.
