Could this be the Liverpool starting eleven next season?

It is amazing what a little success can bring with it. This time last season Liverpool were being forced to settle for b grade stars such as Iago Aspas and Victor Moses to plump out a squad that was already thin on the bones. But a second place finish on top of a return to the Champions League and an attacking style of play that has won plaudits from football fans all over the world and it seems that everyman and his dog is in the frame for a transfer to Anfield.

There is no doubt that Brendan Rodgers has money to spend this summer but here is how his Liverpool team could line up next season if all of the paper talk turns out to be true.

GK – Victor Valdes

It has been known for some months that the Barcelona shot stopper would be leaving Spain this summer with French club Monaco hot favourites to clinch the deal. But after that proposed move fell through it seems that Britain’s Metro newspaper feel moneybags Liverpool are now in the frame for his signature. I agree that a back up keeper could well be needed in the squad, but would Valdes come to the Premier League to sit on the bench?

RB – Micah Richards

Liverpool’s current right back, Glen Johnson, has come in for some criticism in recent months and with the ageing defender nearing the end of his current contract many feel that Liverpool are currently looking for a replacement. The express.co.uk and others are reporting that Liverpool and Newcastle will fight it out for the Manchester City man who has become disillusioned with the lack of first team football. But with, John Flanagan, looking to move to his more natural right side this season I recon we already have a Johnson replacement at hand.

LB – Alberto Moreno

Left back was a problem position for Liverpool last season with young, John Flanagan, stepping in to fill the void. Got to admit I don’t know much about Moreno but reports on him are positive; although a possible deal seems to have stalled in recent weeks.

CB – Dejan Lovren

Another raid on Southampton has take up a lot of newspaper headlines in recent weeks after the signings of Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert. It seems Rodgers was an admirer of The Saints style of play last season and was hoping to bring in the cool, calm and collected figure of Lovren to the squad to fix his leaky defence. But it seems that Liverpool’s 20 million GBP bid will be rejected and Rodgers will have to look elsewhere.

CB – Steven Caulker

Relegated with Cardiff City last season Caulker has been linked with Liverpool since the very end of May. With The Bluebirds looking to cash in he would represent good value but it seems that QPR boss, Harry Redknapp, wants him to team up with Rio Ferdinand in London.

DM – Nigel De Jong

To be honest this rumor as only been a fleeting one. The Dutch enforcer could make a move away from Milan but he would be more likely to team up with compatriot, Robin Van Persie, at Manchester Utd than move to Liverpool

DM – Jan Vertonghen

Liverpool’s official Club Call line has suggested that a move for Tottenham’s Vertonghen could be on the cards if the move for Lovren falls through. I know he is predominantly a centre back but for this exercise he can move in to midfield. Will he join? For 15 million GBP I sincerely hope not.

AM – Alexis Sanchez

Now we are talking. The Chilean midfield seems to be on his way out of Barcelona and the news suggests that he could come to Anfield as part of deal to take Luis Suarez the Camp Nou . Sanchez is all class and would fit in well with Liverpool’s attacking style.

RM – Xherdan Shaqiri

Another move that I would love to see happen. The Swiss ace has had a great World Cup and although not a regular for, Pep Guardiola, and his Bayern Munich team there is simply no denying this guys talent. Liverpool should do all they can get him teamed up with Sanchez.

LM – Lazar Markovic

The Benfica star has been linked with Liverpool all summer, although it has been as an alternative to Adam Lallana had that particular deal fallen through. With Lallana now sorting the number 20 shirt it seems a move for Markovic is unlikely.

CF – Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

The experienced striker could be on his way out of German club Schalke this summer as contract negotiations stall. But my gut feeling is that he will stay where he is and that talk of a Liverpool move set up to help ease current negotiations along.
