Everybody knows by know that I feel it was the right move to sell Luis Suarez. As well as he performed for the club last year he has been more of a liability than a saving grace. Add to that the fact that he wanted to go any way I think that we were left with no choice in the matter. You can only keep a player against his will for so long and the Suarez Liverpool relationship had more than run its course.
But with the talisman gone the reds need to step up and sign a big name not only in an attempt to fill the former number sevens boot but to also appease many of the disgruntled fans. I had hoped that Alexis Sanchez would be heading to Anfield as part of the Suarez deal but for some reason he chose Arsenal ahead of the best footballing team in the EPL last season.
With the Chilean gone there is really only one target that I want to see don the famous red of Liverpool. People have been talking about, Wilfred Bony, from Swansea, but I sincerely hope this is nothing more than his agent looking to engineer a big move for his client. Liverpool have to aim higher. They have to get someone with presence that is going to lift the Kop as well as the players and staff around Melwood. Liverpool should now be doing all they can to get Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema.
Talk in the press is that the French striker is available at the right price with Britain’s Daily Star reporting that Liverpool could make a move soon.
“Benzema could be available at a knock-down price as his contract only has a year to run,” says Daily Star reporter Colin Harvey.
“Another contributing factor is Real’s anticipated move for Monaco striker Radamel Falcao.
“Last week reports emerged that Benzema had agreed a deal in principle with Madrid to extend his stay at the Bernabeu but crucially, he is yet to put pen-to-paper.
“And with Liverpool’s interest and Benzema’s starting spot under serious threat, Anfield could prove the perfect destination for the 26-year-old.”
Benzema is big, strong, knows where the back of the net is and more importantly he will add star power to a young Liverpool squad.
40 Million GBP will apparently get him to Merseyside, the reds should be writing the check already.
