Liverpool’s summer spending spree looks set continue with the Spanish defensive duo of Alberto Moreno and Javi Manquillo set to join this week. According to reports coming out of the UK the clubs Chief Executive, Ian Ayre, has flown to Spain to rubber stamp what could be the final signings before the start of the new season.
Reds boss, Brendan Rodgers, has been desperate to bring in cover in the full back positions especially on the left after having to play the right footed John Flanagan there for the majority of last season.
“We still have some business to do,” said Rodgers. “We have some positions that we want to fill so by the end of August we’ll have a strong squad to go forward with.”
Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno had been first choice but Liverpool were reluctant to pay the 20 million GBP asking fee, but with the season fast approaching and other options slipping away it now seems they are prepared to cough up.
Atletico Madrid Right Back, Javier Manquillo, also looks set to join on an amazing two-year loan deal after a similar move to Arsenal fell through. The new signings will definitely give Rodgers plenty of options with the likes Jose Enrique and Jack Robinson also impressing on the clubs current tour of the USA.
