He has been tipped by many experts in Germany as the new Bastian Schweinsteiger, but Liverpool midfielder, Emre Can, has foregone any player comparisons by calling himself a beast of the Premier League.
The German U21 international won a lot of fans during the reds preseason tour of the USA because of his physical style of play and enthusiasm to go box to box. Manchester City full back, Micah Richards, can certainly vouch for Emre Can’s muscular presence having been decked twice by him in quick succession when the two teams met in the iconic Yankee Stadium in New York. So positive were his performances that the Liverpool faithful were left scratching their heads a little when Can was left out of the starting 11 for the opening day fixture against Southampton. But in an interview with the clubs official website the midfielder admits he wasn’t fully fit and is now chomping at the bit for another crack at City on Monday night.
“The Brendan Rodgers style suits me, and I can adapt to it quickly,” said the clubs new No.23.
“He wants to play football and that’s what I do. I am here to play so I hope to be ready to feature quickly. In the Premier League, there are a lot of ‘big beasts’.
“I am also one of them, so I’m going to give my best. The Premier League style suits me; to be a physical and strong player is important and I am looking forward to putting that to good use.”
“I am looking forward to this match, last season’s first against second,” Can admitted. “I’m sure it will be a big match. We won the first match and to win the second is also important.
“I think all of our players can go into that second match confidently, having won our first match. We all have a great deal of self-belief and we can go into that match to win it.”
Liverpool will be without latest signing, Mario Balotelli, for the trip to his former club Manchester City after the striker failed to complete the formalities of the move before the deadline meaning his debut could come away at Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
