In a game cleverly dubbed ‘the best worst game this season‘, Liverpool managed to earn themselves a sloppy win when they faced Norwich away from home

A game filled with goals, mistakes and awful defending, this match will go down as an example of the typical premier league defending this season. Jamie Carragher took to twitter saying ‘how bad is defending in the premier league!’, perfectly summing up the poor defensive performances produced so in the league so far this season.

Liverpool vs Norwich was almost rigged to play out like an informative documentary of poor defending. First, Roberto Firmino opened the scoring against the flow of play, but then, Dieumerci’s Mbokani’s back-heel from, you guessed it, a set-piece made the game equal.

Then the worst happened. Former Everton midfielder, Steven Naismith, scored on his Norwich début to put the canaries in-front. Early into the second half, Wes Hoolahan added a third from the penalty spot, putting Liverpool two goals behind.

At this point, I (prematurely) took to Twitter, along with many other fans eager to express disappointment in the performance so far. Then things got interesting, as Jordan Henderson pulled one back, before Roberto Firmino levelled things up in a game that looked lost.

From there, a blind pass-back from a Norwich defender allowed James Milner to take Liverpool ahead, until Sébastien Bassong scored his first goal in three years in the 91st minute – making the score 4-4.

At this point I was all but done and had stormed out of the room and away from the TV, unable to process what had just happened. A defender who hadn’t scored in three years just earned Norwich a point. I came back with Malteasers, ready to comfort eat to fill the void a missed 2 points would has left, when suddenly Adam Lallana saves the day – scoring a 5th in the 94th minute.

This fifth goal sparked one of the most memorable and beautiful moments in football this season, as Jurgen Klopp and the entire bench ran to celebrate with the team.

After such a poor, albeit entertaining game – here’s Rush the Kop’s player ratings.
