Liverpool get knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round after an unfortunate defeat against West Ham

After four meetings this season, Liverpool finally managed to get a goal against West Ham. Granted, it means nothing in the grand scheme of things, with West Ham beating us for the third time and knocking us out of the FA Cup in only the fourth round.

I can’t help but feel like it’s probably best, because everything we have should be pumped into the final of the Capital One Cup and the Europa League. I’m not the only reds fan who would rather see us win silverware this season as oppose to competing on all fronts and failing to bring home any of the trophies. The Europa League also looks like our only realistic chance at securing Champions League football next season, unless the returning Daniel Sturridge can start knocking in goals for fun.

You need to look at the positives in tonight’s game first. The young players came into another game against tough opponents, but brought a challenge to West Ham’s home ground and managed to avoid being steam-rolled. Some of our key players made their returns after spending extended spells on the sidelines, and Philippe Coutinho even managed to bag himself a goal. Divock Origi and Sturridge impacted the game as substitutes, and have some minutes in the bag going into the coming games.

We now have more depth and quality in the side, and if Origi, Sturridge and Coutinho can start helping us get some goals then maybe the rest of our season can pick up. Just imagine it, Coutinho, Firmino and Sturridge leading the line!

It was also good to see the return of Jurgen Klopp, whose quirky presence surely pleased the players and the fans – although sadly not leading the side to a win. Here’s Rush the Kop’s player ratings for the 2-1 defeat against West Ham.
