The season’s end is just two months away and Liverpool fans will see more reports of potential transfers. The new one out is that multiple clubs are eyeing Mamadou Sakho, again.

Southampton appear to be ready to return to the negotiating table with Liverpool over a possible move for Sakho, according to Chris Bascombe at the Telegraph.

It is reported that Southampton representatives in January attempted to sign Sakho, but the talks quickly ended after learning that Liverpool wanted £20-million for the defender.

History: Sakho and Klopp

As Liverpool fans know, Sakho fell out of favor with Reds boss, Jürgen Klopp, during the summer. It was the preseason debacle that led to Sakho joining Crystal Palace on loan in January.

In just three appearances since joining Crystal Palace, Sakho has helped the Eagles keep three clean sheets, winning three matches. A stark improvement upon their past performances.

Chris Godfrey, writing for Playing For 90 said this:

"The revival didn’t happen straight away but new manager Sam Allardyce and new acquisition Mamadou Sakho have drastically improved the Crystal Palace defence which has led to three wins in a row."

Well, Crystal Palace is not the only club that likes Sakho, many teams have interest in Sakho’s services. So, Southampton will not be the only club looking to pursue him over the summer. It is reported that Napoli also might join the sweepstakes for Sakho, especially is Kalidou Koulibaly departs this summer.

Reds fans either love or hate Sakho. There were many who were begging for Klopp to start him during Liverpool’s horrible January skid. That obviously did not happen and for good reason; Klopp wants to play his guys in his system.

With the summer looming and more scouting reports being released it is apparent that Liverpool want to (and need to) upgrade their back-line. Defense wins championships and that should be a focus for Klopp over the summer. It just probably will be without Mamadou Sakho.
