The Naby Keita saga continues. Our beloved Liverpool remain hopeful of signing Keita from RB Leipzig, but the Reds chances are diminishing.

In a galaxy far, far away… RB Leipzig have made it clear that they intend for Keita to be apart of their side when the Bundesliga kicks off in August.

The Reds pursuit of Naby Keita for most the summer is failing to convince Leipzig to sell their young midfielder. The Daily Star reports that Keita will not be joining Liverpool. Well, we have certainly heard this story before. If we have learned anything, it’s that nothing is for sure until a player signs or the window closes.

The RB Leipzig Strikes Back

Today, RB Leipzig confirms reports that Liverpool have withdrawn from their pursuit of Keita. More or less confirming that the Reds will have to wait for January or next summer to grab Leipzig’s breakout star.

Leipzig CEO, Oliver Mintzlaff, said on Tuesday, “We’re looking forward to the season ahead – together with Naby!” Okay, I guess he doesn’t like money… RB Leipzig turned down £66.9 million…

The Reds must now shift their attention elsewhere. Does that mean James Milner returns to the midfield with the arrival of Andy Robertson? Or does Klopp go out and sign another young midfielder?

Is Leon Goretzka The Last Jedi?

According to the Daily Star, Leon Goretzka is on Klopp’s radar as an alternative to Naby Keita. Goretzka has show flashes of greatness in his young career with Schalke and the German national team.

In 90 appearances in the Bundesliga, Goretzka has scored 10 goals. He shows a strong ability to hold onto the ball and is diligent in his concentration and locking down counter-attacks.

Last season in 30 appearances, Goretzka scored 5 goals, created 34 chances, and averaged 78% on his passing accuracy. Check out his skills for yourself:

Granted, Goretzka is no Naby Keita, but he would make a nice addition to the Reds midfield and give Klopp greater depth and flexibility in his squad.

Rogue One, Two, or Three? – We Need More!

With a little over a month to go in the summer transfer window, Liverpool need to make some moves. The addition of Dominic Solanke, Mohamed Salah, and Andy Robertson should not be overlooked, but… we need more!

I am worried that these three additions won’t be enough. Don’t get me wrong, if Coutinho stays we are still a lethal club that is capable of making a serious run in both the Champions and Premier League, respectively.

There is still little depth to the squad, imagine if Mane goes down with an injury again? Or Sturridge remains the same stagnate-player from last season? Or Firmino or Coutinho tweak a hamstring? Not to mention Jordan Henderson‘s foot! It would be disaster all over again.

Klopp and FSG need to get their act together and sign some players, ensuring a solid chance at both leagues, and both domestic cups. This Liverpool team is capable of much more and needs just a few more additions. Don’t waste this chance Reds!
