Liverpool transfer news: Odds slashed on £58 million striker to Anfield

Bookies have slashed the odds on Liverpool making a move for Lorenzo Insigne when the January transfer opens in two weeks.

Bookmakers have cut the odds of Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne moving to Liverpool in the coming weeks of the transfer window.

Paddy Power have slashed their odds of an Anfield move for the striker from 10/1 to 7/1 favorites. There is anticipation in betting patterns that Liverpool will make a transfer move to consolidate their status at the top of the Premier League.

The Italian international is rated a £58 million transfer according to transfermarkt.com. Though there would likely be a premium for a mid-season move.

Insigne has ten goals and five assists this season for Napoli as the sit in second in the Serie A table.

The tabloid and blogs are full of spurious transfer tales at this time of year. The month or two leading up to a transfer window is prime time rumor mongering. However it is worth paying attention to the bookies – when the needle moves on the odds there is often more than just dubious sources.

However at 27-years-old he doesn’t fit the bill of a huge Jurgen Klopp transfer under FSG. The club tends to plump for young talent who can either stay at the club for more than one contract or be sold on for a profit.

If the Reds were to indeed make a move for Insigne it would be a sign that they believe there is immediate benefit in changing transfer strategy.

It seems more likely that if the club are considering a £60+ million splash in the transfer market then it would be for Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund. The American youngster is a long-term target and highly rated by Klopp.
