There’s more bad news for Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman has now been left out of  the Premier League squad.

It has been a tough week for Liverpool when it comes to injuries. Blood is boiling and ears are steaming, but the inevitable has happened. Virgil van Dijk has been ruled out for the season.

The star has officially been omitted from the team’s 25-man Premier League squad for this season. This happened after a needless and reckless challenge made by Jordan Pickford, who’s ghastly challenge went unpunished by the FA which further infuriated Liverpool fans.

The club and their medical staff have not been able to put return date for Van Dijk. It is safe to presume that he shall not kick a ball again this season as he requires knee surgery after his anterior cruciate ligament was injured during the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool players have come out in support and admiration of the role of Van Dijk. Club captain, Jordan Henderson, mentioned that his absence will be a huge loss but he is confident that Liverpool can counter that loss, and that van Dijk will return stronger than ever.

During the press conference for the opening Champions League against Ajax, Goal reported that Jurgen Klopp spoke about his reaction to the tackle and the lack of retrospective action.

"“Both challenges were difficult to accept. Injuries happen in football, very often in challenges, very often both players try to play the ball but it was not the case in these two challenges and that makes it very difficult to take. We wish van Dijk a speedy recovery. The players are surely seeking to do their best. Fabinho was brought in to play alongside Joe Gomez against Ajax and did incredibly well, which assuages some fears about the loss of van Dijk.
