James Milner is the master

Jack of all trades, master of none? Nah, Milner is the Jack of all trades, and he masters them too. Is there nowhere this man can’t operate? After spending nearly all season at left-back a few years ago, Klopp has now switched the midfielder to right-back.

Neco Williams clearly wasn’t considered ready for first-team action, but that’s not a problem when Liverpool have a man like Milner who can step up and provide an option. His crossing might not have been as good as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s, but his passing range was still excellent – as was his set-piece delivery.

Defensively, Milner was pretty solid and then he moved into midfield when Naby Keita was taken off the field with a hamstring injury.

And guess what? The former City man played well in the middle of the park, too, as he helped shut down an excellent Leicester City side.

The scale and intensity of this season is going to mean someone like Milner becomes very important to Klopp. His ability to play in a variety of positions, and honestly I could see him getting a go at centre-back, make him very valuable.

Add to that his leadership and experience and you’ve got a true master on your hands.
