Sean Dyche’s Burnley beat Liverpool at Anfield.

Well, things have gotten muckier for the English Premier League Champions. A grim couple of months have seen them not score a single league goal in four matches. Things look grim, things are scarier than they ever have been.

Burnley executed their game plan to perfection. Kudos to them. They were resolute in defence, cut passing lanes, cleared crosses and had a bit of luck on their side as well. But, believe you me, there is no one else to blame for this loss other than Liverpool players.

Three things I think we have learned from this heart-breaking defeat are:

Liverpool has to dip into the January market

Liverpool desperately needs to get a centre back with Champions League or Premier League experience. We are aware that due to Covid-19 funds are low. However, if that is the case then getting a player with on loan is what we need. A player who can play 18/19 games is all we need.

If Matip stays fit, we need a proper centre back to pair up with him. This will allow Fabinho to go back to his preferred position as holding midfielder. That will reduce the defensive duty on the front three which could help unlock them.

I am aware Virgil van Dijk is making good strides, however, he might be able to play only towards the end of March or even after that. Which means, dipping into the market is more than necessary.

Liverpool are missing the fans

It is a known fact that the Anfield atmosphere is one of the nosiest and most hostile for visiting teams. Having the fans sing and yell pushes the team forward. It gives them that little push which makes them want to win a tad bit more.

Given the circumstances, and rightly so, the empty stadiums are something that is affecting Liverpool. The empty Kop, the lack of the 12th man signing songs and chants is hurting the players.

Klopp is has ensured that there is a feeling of unity and an emotional attachment between himself and players and the Anfield faithful. Given that there are no fans in the stadium, Liverpool is missing something that is a part of their gameplay, a noisy packed to the rafters Anfield.

Diogo Jota – is our best finisher this season

More from Rush The Kop

In hindsight, the signing of Diogo Jota seems to be a great of fresh air. When he was playing, he was lethal in front of goal finishing some chances that were harder than they looked. He rattled the front three who were quite comfortable about an assured starting line up.

After Klopp made an error in judgement of playing him in a dead rubber match where he picked up a new injury, we’ve lost our sense of where the goal is. Its as though Diogo Jota has hidden the goal-scoring boots of the front three to ensure that he starts when fully fit!

I am sure if he was fit, he would have added more goal threat than Divock Origi did and might have buried the chance that Origi missed by hitting the post.

Conclusion

Liverpool are in a tight spot and something needs to change, and change quickly! We are a set of fans who never give up and this is just a bump on the road, but there are signs of something bigger going to happen if things don’t change quickly!
