Liverpool is still in the hunt to land out of contract star David Alaba.

The fight for Liverpool to sign a centre back is still going on. The fanbase and club hierarchy are expect the owners to sort out a deal as soon as possible. A loan deal which could be a stop-gap arrangement makes financial sense. However, the free signing of David Alaba is something that most fans hope for.

Bayern Munich star David Alaba, who has the ability to play at center-half, central holding midfielder as well as left-back, is in the final six months of his contract. He is currently free to sign a deal with any club.

Real Madrid and Liverpool are said to have shown interest in signing him. There were rumors in the media that he had already signed a deal with Real Madrid, but those seemed futile. However, Spanish media outlet AS, (via Football Espana) mentioned that Liverpool is still pursuing the deal.

Jurgen Klopp has made an appeal to the owners to make the signing that could help reduce their defensive liabilities due to long term injuries.

Real Madrid is still in pole position to land the defender. Although Zinedine Zidane’s side are not willing to shell out more than €11million per annum in wages for Alaba – something which could also be a stumbling block for Liverpool.

Madrid’s offer falls just a little shy of what Fabrizio Romano claims is Alaba’s expectation. Alaba is hoping to sign a deal worth €12 million per annum.

The same report from the Spanish media claims Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG all have deals on the table. City apparently has offered Alaba €14 million per annum. Not surprising that they are willing to pay the highest as compared to other football clubs.

Jurgen Klopp is working hard to convince Liverpool

A couple of weeks ago, Romeo Agresti mentioned that Liverpool tabled an offer of about €10.3 million to Alaba. However, that was a tad bit less than what he was expecting and that effort to sign him ended up being futile.

It is a public fact that Real Madrid is Alaba’s favored choice. However, Klopp is trying hard to get the owners to improve their offer and also hopes to use Thiago Alcantara to convince the Austrian international to sign for the reds.

Alaba brings with him a winning mentality, seniority, and the ability to play in multiple positions. This is something that Klopp can utilize to his advantage. He can play multiple roles like cover for Andy Robertson, replace Georginio Wijnaldum, who is expected to leave for Barcelona, as well as line up in the center-back position if required.
