Liverpool got what they deserved. Every inch of it, from one to eleven, Liverpool were poor.
Bournemouth were the better side at 0-0, they were the better side at 2-2, and ultimately Liverpool were found out.
The £300m transfer window that set Liverpool up to fail and the poor in-game management, were two contributory factors, but here are how the Liverpool players rated in Saturday's defeat.
Alisson Becker- 5
He struggled all game in what were a difficult set of conditions, and he arguably should have done better for the second goal.
Milos Kerkez- 5
He had a difficult time of it up against his old club, and seems to be lacking a bit of mental fortitude, at what we all forget is still such a young age.
He got hooked at half-time and it feels harsh, but he can have few complaints.
Virgil van Dijk- 3
He makes the fundamental error for the first goal and plays the scorer onside for the second.
Van Dijk scored a great header to get Liverpool back in the game, but he also could have done a lot better for Bournemouth’s winner.
Joe Gomez- 6
Gomez didn’t do much wrong before being taken off due to injury, he was dealt a bad hand by van Dijk for Bournemouth’s first goal.
Ryan Gravenberch- 4
He was really bad. One player that doesn’t seem to be on the public’s radar for underperforming Liverpool players.
The Dutchman was sloppy on the ball and was often nowhere near decisive enough defensively, he has been really poor the past couple of months.
Alexis Mac Allister- 4
Another feature of Liverpool’s invisible midfield, Alexis Mac Allister gets turned and beaten far too often.
I haven’t been Mac Allister’s biggest critic this season, but he has been chronically poor in the past couple of league matches.
Dominik Szoboszlai- 7
Szoboszlai had a good couple of moments on the ball and he produced a moment of brilliance with the free-kick that put Liverpool back level.

Cody Gakpo- 5
Gakpo was poor on the ball and just does not seem to play well with Hugo Ekitike in particular.
He is evidently a player who has flaws but can still produce a moment of quality, which he doesn’t do quite often enough for my liking.
Florian Wirtz- 7
Not his best game, but Liverpool’s best moves went through Florian Wirtz. At 2-2 you thought there was a chance he might have found the ball to unpick the Bournemouth defence.
Mohamed Salah- 5
He offered Liverpool next to nothing going forward, he was fairly anonymous the whole evening.
Salah did have some good link-up play with Wirtz which is a promising sign if nothing else.
Andy Robertson- 6
Wasn’t a great game for Robertson, but his half-time introduction shows Liverpool CANNOT afford to let Robertson go. Within reason, he should be given a new contract, as he can still compete for the jersey.
Hugo Ekitike- 5
He offered very little. One hoped that he could inspire a comeback, but he kept losing the ball and giving Bournemouth relief by giving away a cheap foul.
Curtis Jones- 5
Jones was poor. He didn’t seem to snuff out any danger, his delivery was poor. A bad day at the office for the Englishman.
Rio Ngumoha- 6
Had a few bright moments when he came on, as I said last week Liverpool Football Club should not be relying on a seventeen-year-old to get three points.
