Steven Gerrard’s top 5 moments for Liverpool
By Kris Whelan
As Steven Gerrard nears the end of his Liverpool career we take a look back at his five greatest moments in a Liverpool Jersey
Steven Gerrard only has one more game remaining at Anfield, the stadium that’s been his been his footballing home for over 17 years. As he nears his 35th birthday there is plenty for him to look back on and remember fondly, and even though there might be some regrets along the way, there is one thing that’s for certain; Gerrard is a Liverpool legend.
His last Liverpool campaign will be remembered as a disappointing one with his club failing to earn Champions League qualification and crashing out of two cup semi finals. His season was rife with disappointments on a personal level also as he endured time on the bench, injuries and a well documented suspension following a stamp against arch rivals Manchester United.
Even though this season wasn’t his finest, he is leaving Liverpool with his head held high and his past few games have reminded Liverpool fans what they’ll be missing when he goes to the MLS.
It’s been well established that Gerrard could have left Liverpool to join a number of clubs over the years, including Real Madrid, Chelsea and Inter Milan. The decision to stay with his hometown club has raised the same question time and time again, will he come to regret not leaving in search of more trophies?
The captain has often stated that he knew a few trophies with Liverpool would mean a lot more to him than a lot of trophies with another club. Loyalty such as Gerrard’s is rare in football these days and he will always be remembered at Anfield as ‘Captain Fantastic’.
Here are the moments I believe are his finest:
