Steven Gerrard’s top 5 moments for Liverpool

No.2: Winning 2006 FA Cup final
This is the last cup that Liverpool won besides the league cup which let’s face it, isn’t very high on everybody’s list of priorities. The 2006 FA Cup final is one of the most memorable cup finals in England’s illustrious history, with Liverpool fans and neutrals alike all blown away with the events on the day.
Most neutral fans were cheering for West Ham because they were the underdogs. When the London club took a shock 2-0 lead early on in the game, Liverpool fans around the world were in a sense of total disbelief. It would have been absolutely devastating were they to lose a cup final they were expected to win with ease.
The 2-0 deficit created the element of drama, something that Steven Gerrard thrived on throughout his career. Captain fantastic put on what is arguably his best performance in a Liverpool shirt when he played one of his infamous Hollywood passes to set up his sides first goal.
Gerrard would then rifle home a volley from just inside the box to equalize a game that looked to be headed towards extra time only for West Ham to take another shock lead with few minutes remaining.
The board for added time was just raised when Gerrard decided to try a volley from distance. He has later stated that he only took the shot on due to exhaustion, apparently if he had have had more energy he would have taken a touch and looked for a pass. Thank god for that feeling of exhaustion.
As we all know, the ball flew past the goalkeeper and sent the game in to extra time. Liverpool would win the game on penalties and Steven Gerrard would lift the cup as captain. Truly an incredible performance and moment for the club captain.
