No.1: Champions League final in 2005

In what is considered to be the greatest Champions League final of all time, Steven Gerrard was at his best and dragged his team back from the depths of a humiliating defeat.

Every Liverpool fan remembers where they were when watching the 2005 Champions League final, they also remember the range of emotions they felt during the first 90 minutes. A Paolo Maldini goal within 60 seconds seemed to set the tone for the game and Liverpool fans feared the worst.

Two goals from Hernan Crespo meant Liverpool would go in to the half time break 3-0, amazingly it could have been even worse considering Milan had a goal disallowed.

The headlines were already written and it seemed to only be a matter of by how many the Italian side were going to win the cup final by. However there were some shocks in the works and we were all treated to an amazing and breathtaking cup final.

Steven Gerrard’s outstanding header gave his side a shred of hope before Smicer scored from distance to make the Reds’ fans believe. Gerrard would later break through on goal only to be taken down in the box, leading to Xabi Alsono to score the rebound from his missed penalty.

Liverpool would go on to win on penalties, it was their 5th European Cup and Gerrard’s finest moment in a Liverpool jersey. It’s hard to re-watch the video of the game and not get goosebumps.
