24. Samed Yesil/£1m/Leverkusen/Aug 2012

Yesil is a young striker bought from Leverkusen who was labelled a great finisher. That he is.

Another thing he is: unlucky. The 21-year-old has already had separate times in which he tore his ACL. When fit, he’s looked promising.

The German has made just two appearances for the Liverpool first team and is currently on loan at FC Luzern where he’s scored one goal in the league over eight appearances.

Coming up through the German youth national team ranks, Yesil scored wherever he was. For the U17 team he netted 20 goals in 21 appearances, part of what sparked Rodgers to spur into action and buy the youngster.

Yesil comes in above the likes of Borini, Ilori and Assaidi as his price tag wasn’t significant at all as well as not being a disappointment like the ones before him. Yesil wasn’t expected to be a first team contributor; he was bought on the promise of potential. That potential never had a chance to be reached due to injuries.

Yesil has said he hopes for a chance under Klopp. Whether or not he’ll get it remains to be seen, though unlikely.
