28. Nuri Sahin/loan/Real Madrid/Aug 2012

Before indulging on how so incredibly disappointing the whole Nuri Sahin at Liverpool ordeal was, this photo serves two main purposes:

  1. Photo proof that Sahin did, in fact, smile once in a while at Liverpool.
  2. Those Warrior kits!!!

Anyway. Rodgers brings on a player who showed world class form at Borussia Dortmund but couldn’t find his feet at Real Madrid only to play him out of position and disgruntle him to the point in which his loan would be terminated!

Sahin is a deep lying playmaker. Rodgers insisted on playing him as a number 10. It’s just mind boggling.

The Turkish international returned to Madrid briefly before going back home to Klopp at Dortmund.

Liverpool taking Sahin on a loan should’ve been a great addition that they could’ve hoped to make permanent but it went array in a hurry.

Sahin was only used in 12 matches but scored a respectable three goals. To be fair, his Liverpool career exceeded that of his Madrid career in which he only made four appearances in the league.

At any rate, this could have been so much more. So much more. Huge disappointment and an acrimonious exit plops Sahin at 28 on this ranking.
