So far this January hasn’t lacked it’s ‘silly season’ transfer rumours, with Liverpool being linked to a variety of players in all positions – and of all standards. This is Rush the Kop’s best team composed entirely of this window’s transfer links
I think every football fan knows not to get too excited during what is adequately referred to as ‘silly season’.
It’s the period when every football club in the world suddenly become linked to sign players far too good for them, usually with a severe lack of substance behind the rumours – just imagine AFC Wimbledon being linked with Lionel Messi (okay, not that silly, but you get the idea).
Encouraged by a disastrous injury crisis, Liverpool have experienced numerous links for almost every position on the pitch. Most of these transfers seem highly unlikely, with some being in positions that do have a degree of depth. The shocking injury list, which thisisanfield reports as 11 players (an improvement on last week’s 13), has seen Liverpool’s youngster fill the gaps of the first team side. While this has allowed some promising talents to show their worth and compete for places in the first team, a side of reserves and U21’s couldn’t even beat Exeter.
Some of the linked signings are reasonable, and give fans hope that the squad may actually get strengthened this January. Promising youngster, Marko Grujic, is Jurgen Klopp’s first signing as Liverpool manager, however the player demand to return to Red Star Belgrade on loan to finish the season with his former team. This gives confidence to fans who are hoping that more signings come through before the window closes, especially in positions of dire need – such as Central defence.
Although even Manchester City would struggle to afford all the players Liverpool are linked with, what would a full starting eleven comprised entirely of this window’s transfer links look like?
