Liverpool transfer linked XI
By Ethan Lowe
CB – Martín Caceres
With the majority of injuries being suffered by Liverpool’s central defenders, it’s no surprise that a lot of the links are players who can fill that void. With big home fixtures coming up and several cups running, the reds lack the depth required to compete efficiently on all fronts. Without quality central defenders, poor Simon Mignolet could concede so many goals he just decides to retire.
28 year old Martin Caceres, who currently plays for Juventus, would bring a wealth of experience to Liverpool’s defensive line. Having made 105 appearances for Serie A giants, Juventus, and even 23 appearances for previous club Barcelona, Caceres is capable of defending well against strong opposition. Due to his experience, he has developed an admirable defensive vision and an aptitude for making crucial decisions effectively.
There’s one thing for sure, this Uruguay international is certainly better than new Liverpool defender Steven Caulker – who recently signed on loan. Caceres has made 69 appearances for his international time, scoring three goals, and the defender can play at both centre back and right back if needed.
Caceres was linked early in this January’s transfer window, but haven’t entirely died down as of yet. Martin Caceres would, as said above, bring a high level of experience to Liverpool’s back line. He could be a quality asset, and with a few more years left in the game than Martin Skrtel, he could claim a place in Liverpool’s starting line-up should he make the switch to Anfield.
Next: Now or in the summer?
