Liverpool will host Manchester United on Sunday, following the frantic 3-3 draw at home against Arsenal. This is Rush the Kop’s combined XI

Games don’t get much more intense than this. When Liverpool face fierce rivals Manchester United, anything can happen. Usually, rough tackling and strong play dominates the game, and emotions are high for the full 90 minutes. Sadly, United have won the last three meetings between the sides, with the first game between the two this season ending in 3-1 in favour of United away at Old Trafford.

Liverpool have experienced a rejuvenation against the bigger sides under Jurgen Klopp, and have beaten Chelsea, Manchester City, held two draws against Arsenal, and a draw against Tottenham Hotspurs. With Roberto Firmino picking up form with his outstanding performance against Arsenal, he looks to be a key player in the team with Philippe Coutinho still sidelined.

Manchester United however have seen a different change under Louis Van Gaal. They sit in 6th place, three points ahead of Liverpool in the League, yet are still heavily criticised due to being below expectations. Only a couple of years ago, United were one the most recognised and dangerous teams in the world, capable of competing in the Champions league and giving top sides a challenge, however since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure the team have faded.

Many are judging Van Gaal’s boring sidewards play, which is world’s away from the dominant attacking play of United’s past. Despite this, they still remain a threat, and Liverpool will need to be at their best to take anything from this game.

Manchester United arrive at Anfield following a 3-3 draw against Newcastle, in which fading star Wayne Rooney scored two and created another. Before this game, United had back to back victories which gave hope despite the side not managing a single win during the month of December.

Here’s Rush the Kop’s combined XI ahead of a clash which promises excitement. The formation is going to be a 4-2-3-1, with defensive and attacking mid-fielders.
