LB- Alberto Moreno

There’s just no reason to not choose Alberto Moreno for this one. Like his Spanish companion, De Gea, he is a highly effective player who is increasingly impressing everyone. The speed possessed by the left back allows him to burst down the wing and provide energetic overlapping runs.

So far this season, Alberto Moreno is the fifth highest tackling defender, with 57, and is the defender who has created the most chances so far in the Premier League (41). This shows that Alberto Moreno is reliable at the back, using his speed and tackling abilities to stop defenders, while also supporting his quality going forward and contributing offensively.

Alberto Moreno makes it into this combined XI over the likes of fellow team-mate Brad Smith, who has impressed in recent games, and Manchester United players such as Ashley Young and Daley Blind. Blind’s versatility to play anywhere in defence, as well as defensive midfield, gave him a shot at making it into this side, but I just feel that the statistics support the decision to select Moreno.
