CB- Mamadou Sakho

Liverpool’s temporary fan favourite formed a formidable partnership with the struggling Dejan Lovren, which looked to be the strongest centre-back pairing available to the side. Sadly, with a wealth of injuries plaguing Liverpool’s defence, it was more or less a decision between Sakho and the legend himself – Kolo Toure.

Before you scroll down and begin to express your outrage as to why Kolo hasn’t been chosen, let me explain my thinking. Mamadou Sakho is an absolute beast in defence. He bravely throws himself in-front of every shot he can, and his brute strength allows him to tackle even the strongest of players.

At only 25 years of age, Sakho is the future of Liverpool’s defence and looks set to hold his place in the team for the foreseeable future. Mostly a consistent and reliable defender, Sakho takes his place in this team over new signing Steven Caulker, who still has a lot to prove, and the ageing Kolo Toure.
