Well, Danny Ward can’t play because against Exeter because he wasn’t recalled from loan before the first leg, which is unfortunate. And Adam Bogdan can’t play either, for obvious reasons.
So, as it feels so many times, Simon Mignolet plays by default. Not because we’re excited to see him between the pipes. Not because we feel confident with Mignolet the only entity slumped over stuck to the goal line to prevent a goal.
Worryingly Mignolet did pen a new long term contract. Rumor is they had to bring it to him on the Anfield end line slightly off centered because he was out of position.
Hopefully he turns it around and proves the doubters wrong. But how many times can that sentence be written, said, screamed or sighed founded on nothing but optimistic hope before it’s figured out he’s over matched as a top tier keeper?
