James Milner – 7.5

The starting line-up deployed in this game allowed for some flexibility upfront, and Milner was allowed to drift out wide as the attacking mid’s made clever runs forward. Milner covered a vast amount of ground, and his movement into space helped Liverpool going forward. He can adopt several roles, and placed high pressure on Villa, winning Liverpool the ball. His free kick for the second goal was lucky, but took some skill to keep on target.
