Robbie Keane

Date Sold: 2nd February 2009 Appearances: 28 Goals: 7

Robbie Keane was snapped up by Liverpool in the summer of 2008, after establishing himself as not only a great goal-scorer but a gifted provider during six successful seasons at Spurs. Keane carried high expectations, with many Liverpool fans excited for his arrival and hoping that he could provide for Fernando Torres in the same way he’d provided for Dimitar Berbatov.

Despite being a regular starter in the opening weeks of the 2008/09 season, Keane didn’t score his first Liverpool goal until he’d played 11 games – going 688 minutes without scoring. Even then he needed to wait until November to bag his first Premier League goal for the reds.

On the final day of the January transfer window, just half a season after he arrived at Anfield, Robbie Keane was sold back to Spurs at a loss for Liverpool – who had signed Keane for £19million.
