Xabi Alonso was signed from Real Sociedad, on the 20th of August in 2004, for just £10.7million. Alsono was one of the best midfield players in the world during his time at Liverpool, possessing a unique vision and the ability to pick match winning passes. His strength and tackling was an unexpected bonus, that saw Alonso recognised as a quality deep-lying play-maker.

In his time at Liverpool, Alonso scored several important goals, and Rush the Kop have already looked at his top five goals for the reds. He even scored one of the most important goals in Liverpool’s history, finishing the rebound after his penalty was saved during the Champions League final in 2005.

After a total of 210 appearances, 47 of which were in the Champions League, Alonso left Liverpool for Real Madrid with both a Champions League winners medal and an FA Cup winners medal.
