Luis Suarez

Date Sold: 16th July 2014 Appearances: 133 Goals: 82

Always the centre of attention, but not exactly for the right reasons, Luis Suarez has to be one of the greatest strikers in the world.

After scoring a near-unmatchable 81 goals in 110 league games for Ajax, Suarez attracted attention from clubs all around the world. Then, his world cup antics in which he purposely used his hand to prevent a goal and give a penalty instead (which was missed) caused the striker to become highly controversial. Not long after, Suarez once again surrounded himself in controversy. He was punished by his club and the Dutch Footballing Association after biting PSV Eindhoven’s Ottman Bakkal, an act that helped push Ajax into selling him.

Liverpool had only managed to score 31 goals in their opening 24 league matches, and signed Suarez for £22.8million in the January transfer window of the 2010/11 season. Luis Suarez was an instant hit, scoring on his début against Stoke. The Uruguay international brought an unseen amount of goals to Liverpool, being the first reds player to score 30 goals in a season since Fernando Torres in 2007/08. His technical brilliance and outstanding goals outweighed the several negative spells that came with a player like Suarez, who did end up receiving a several match ban after being found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra (of Manchester United).

Luis Suarez managed to score 82 goals during his time at Liverpool, including some outstanding screamers and several impressive hat-tricks. Rush the Kop sifted through all 82 amazing goals, and picked the top 21 Luis Suarez goals.

His natural ability to both score and create goals, alongside his world-class control, dribbling and finishing, earned him a big money move to Barcelona – who couldn’t be put off despite more biting antics in the 2014 world cup.

Luis Suarez deservedly hold the title of Liverpool’s most expensive sold player, being sold to Barcelona for an outstanding £75million!
