Liverpool fail to capitalise on their chances, but steal a spot in the last 16
Well, that was eventful. I spent the closing minutes on the edge of my seat, praying that Augsberg failed to find that goal they so badly needed. Luckily, Liverpool held out, but the only thing sending them into the final 16 was a handball in the 5th minute that led to James Milner’s penalty.
I think we can all agree that Liverpool need to make the most of their chances, and that Sunday will be hard if our forwards miss as much as they did today. Failing to score another against Augsberg wasn’t the worst thing, but if we fail to put away the game on Sunday we’ll be City’s for the taking.
The positives to take are that Liverpool did manage to win, and that they progressed. Daniel Sturridge got minutes, combining with Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino to show a more promising side to Liverpool’s front three. Milner can take a cracking penalty, firing into the bottom right corner past the goalkeeper who dived the correct way.
We’re now into the last 16, and have progressed in the Europa League, all that’s left is to go out to Wembley on Sunday and for the squad to give it their all.
