Liverpool held title contenders Tottenham to a sloppy one-all draw at Anfield

If you watched this game, I’m sure you felt as nervous as I did at times, but funnily enough it wasn’t down to any brilliant play by Tottenham. Liverpool created many of the scary moments themselves, through sloppy passing and the frequent mistakes, but nevertheless, I feel it can still be considered a good performance.

Coming against the best defence in the league, Liverpool looked hungry and aggressive on the front foot, with Hugo Lloris keeping Spurs in this match with his exceptional saves. Liverpool fought, but with many chances saved or not capitalised on fully it seemed for some time that we weren’t able to beat the terrific French keeper.

Then, like many times this season, Philippe Coutinho works some of his magic to find a goal. We took the lead, in one of the most dangerous situations – against a team exceptional at comebacks.

Liverpool have bottled the most points from winning positions this season, while Spurs have gained the most points when coming from behind – it was almost destined that Liverpool would lose this lead.

Harry Kane was the man of the moment for Spurs, turning to find the bottom right corner with a precise and tidy finish. With Spurs looking to challenge Leicester City for first place, they were always going to fight, but if Liverpool could iron out their mistakes they should be able to take more from games like this one.

They looked the better side for the majority of the game, and a tireless midfield and creative attack really brought hope that we could have gotten more. It’s a shame, but if Leicester can go on to win the title, I feel that draw is enough to secure a bigger victory for the entire game of football.

Here’s Rush the Kop’s player ratings for Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Spurs.
