The debate rages on surrounding Jordan Henderson’s role as Liverpool captain

Is Jordan Henderson the captain Liverpool Football Club need? There have been many debates since the departure of Liverpool’s great ex-captain – Steven Gerrard. Many, if not all, of the Liverpool fans knew that Jordan Henderson had some big boots to fill since being appointed the captain, but not many agreed with the decision and some still don’t today.

If we were really to compare Jordon Henderson and Steven Gerrard, it would be comparing chalk and cheese. The latter born with an abundance of talent, whereas the former worked his socks off to be where he is now.

For me Jordan Henderson falls just above average, but certain aspects to the game cannot be taught, and he stands out above the others. We can’t say he’s been a bad serving captain, but we can’t say his been the greatest either. Maybe we as Liverpool fans set the bar too high, or maybe he just needs another season.

For me this type of question can only be answered by what the current manager wants from the team captain – be it if he needs a general, a commander, or a player all the others get along well with. This is something Klopp will have to look at himself, and something the fans have no control over.

I have to say, it hasn’t been an easy ride for our current captain. This being his first full season dubbed as captain, playing with what seems to be a voodoo injury coupled together with the introduction of a new manager at the club (which is never an easy period for any team or player). These are all factors that could hinder a player’s career. For those in agreement, we hope he gets another go at it and that he eventually soaks up all the pressure.

So my advice to all Liverpudlians is; He is our captain, he is one of our players. Don’t go against him, rather go with him! If a team like Spurs are rumoured to be interesting in having his signature and value him at around 25 million, why do some of us not see his worth and rate him as a player?
