CB- Dejan Lovren

Before an angry mob starts throws tomatoes at me. Right now, Lovren is playing tremendously of late and could partner Hummels in this fictitious team.

It’s incredible all the difference confidence can make, how fragile it is and how difficult it is to cultivate. It’s truly astonishing how different of a player Lovren is when he’s brimming with confidence.

Last season, especially at the end, he was absolutely abysmal. He looked like a U18 player thrown into the first team with absolutely no direction and no coaching. He unraveled, he was constantly on the wrong side of the line of trying too hard to remedy his form and not doing enough.

This season, bar an early season catastrophe against West Ham, he’s ranged from solid to really, really good. And lately he’s been really, really good.
