Liverpool see off Stoke in what turns out to be a great attacking display from the reds

With a heavily rotated side in preparation for the second leg against Borussia Dortmund, it was bound to be an exciting and revealing game for Liverpool no matter what the result ended up.

With Kevin Stewart and Sheyi Ojo starting, fans were instantly excited to watch these two promising players in action – and neither disappointed. Daniel Sturridge started up-front after being dropped against Dortmund, and Martin Skrtel made a little wanted return to the Liverpool team.

This comfortable win saw us move up to 8th place, overtaking our opponents for this game.

After Alberto Moreno opened the scoring with a beautiful strike, Stoke found an equaliser from a clever set piece. This spurred them on for several minutes before Daniel Sturridge found the net to end dash their hopes before half-time.

One promising youngster made way for another, as Divock Origi replaced Sheyi Ojo during the half-time break. Origi made an instant impact, scoring in the 50th minute before doubling his tally in the 65th.

The fans enjoyed a great performance, but it’s a real shame that this game was virtually unimportant. It builds confidence ahead of a tough fixture, but our position in the league is virtually irrelevant now.

The biggest positive to take from this match is the effort put into winning the ball back once it was lost, and the numerous players who contributed very strong performances.

Here’s Rush the Kop’s player ratings following a strong Liverpool display.
