Liverpool throw away a comfortable 2-0 lead and end the match against Newcastle with just a point

Once again Liverpool throw away points from a leading position. How us fans haven’t started to expect these upsets I’ll never know.

The tweets went crazy with people praising the side for an impressive first half performance. I post this tweet while more than impressed (and entirely unaware of the approaching Newcastle comeback).

I loved the way the team linked to create some gorgeous football in the first half, and after four successive wins I totally expected a fifth.

Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring early with a great turn and a brilliant finish into the bottom corner – looking back to his peak form. Then Adam Lallana’s magical finish pushed us two ahead going into the break. Everything seemed comfortable and secure.

The second half saw Newcastle steal back a goal, and can you guess who gets the blame? Simon Mignolet. Our keeper has cost us so many points, and coming out for a cross he failed to catch only struck fear into our sides defence.

After the first stupid goal was conceded, Liverpool went to a shambles. The defence was caught napping, and they should have scored their second much earlier than they did.

Its hard not to wonder just how good we could be with a quality keeper capable of winning us games. De Gea has bagged more points for Manchester United than anybody else in their squad, and if we had somebody capable of preventing even goals even half as good as him we’d be flying.

Here’s Rush the Kop’s player ratings following a very disappointing game against Newcastle that saw Liverpool drop points from a leading position.
