3. Christian Poulsen///£4.5m///Juventus

Prior to writing this, I forgot where Poulsen had been signed from. I couldn’t remember, and just assumed it was an obscure Danish club or a non-top-Bundesliga side.

But nope. It was Juventus. How, though?

Then, in researching, I found he played for Hodgson at FC Kobenhavn.

Ah, right.

There are a ton of quotes from opponents about the player, none of which are particularly nice. But one that stands out is his countryman Daniel Agger and teammate at Liverpool, on why he thought Poulsen might struggle at Liverpool, via LFChistory.net.

“Maybe he will find the pace of here a bit of a culture shock; he will have to get used to the extra-high tempo and he won’t be able to drink café lattes like he does in Italy,” said Agger.

This is awesome, one of the many reasons Agger is still the man.

Poulsen made 21 appearances for Liverpool, 12 of which in the Premier League. There’s no poetic way to say that he was just not very good.
