LB Alberto Moreno

How different this tie could have been if only Moreno had seen Ibe busting down the right flank to get in position for a pass across and tap in. Instead, Moreno smashed his shot wide to the near post, with a disappointed Ibe decelerating towards the back post.

For what it’s worth, Moreno created everything about that chance, was a left back in uncharted waters and had serious pressure on his right shoulder, the direction in which he’d have to pass it if he did attempt to hit Ibe. The bottom line was that he couldn’t see Ibe and there was a defender breathing down his neck from that direction anyway. He opted to shoot, which wasn’t the worst option out there. It went wide, unfortunately, and Villarreal would score minutes later.

These things happen in football, and if not for Moreno’s pace and pressing, Liverpool wouldn’t have been gifted that chance anyway.
