Steven Gerrard

Appearances – 710

Games as captain – 473

For me, this man will always be the greatest player we’ve ever had. He’s the captain and leader of my generation, boasting the most games as captain and 5th in the clubs all time top scorers list. He had everything, and I think its right he’s remembered amongst the best midfielders in the history of the Premier League – not just Liverpool.

He brought so much success to the club following his debut in 1998, and when he departed in 2015 it was something impossible to deal with easily. The guy won everything but the Premier League, and the cruel misfortunes that came upon him in his closing years were entirely undeserved.

The slip he is now remember for was awful, but it was more bad luck than anything else. Despite all that, I don’t think anybody in the history of our great club can come close to this man. His passion, his love and his dedication to this club overshadows all the bad points that cropped up in his career.

His strength, world-class passing, powerful forward drives and outstanding deadly shots made him one of the best midfielders in the world, sought after by many and respected by all but bitter rival fans. 710 Liverpool appearances and 114 full international caps later, and Steven Gerrard is probably my all-time favourite footballer.

The greatest there was, is and ever will be.
