Alan Hansen

Appearances – 620

Games as captain – 195

Goals – 14

Alan Hansen arrived at Liverpool from Partick Thistle, and made his debut for the club on the 24th of September 1977. A well rounded and talented sportsman, it took him until only the 19th of October to bag his first Liverpool goal.

Hansen was a key defender in the Liverpool side, but only featured sporadically until the departure of Emlyn Hughes, after which he became the main man in Liverpool’s defence as they continued to dominate English football by winning the title again in 1979-80.

The following season Liverpool won two more trophies thanks to Hansen and the team, before going on to win the league title again in 1981-82. I’d list all his triumphs year by year, but there’s just so many successful seasons.

Hansen went on to play until the 28th of April, 1990. In his time at Liverpool, the side only went 3 seasons without a single trophy. Hansen finished his Liverpool career a massively admired legend, having won 8 league titles, 3 European cups, 2 FA cups and 4 League cups.
