Liverpool’s best pre-season team – considering those that could be offered a chance

Pre-season is all about getting players fit, sharp and focused before the season begins. The games and miniature tournaments that occur during pre-season are always taken lightly, with youngsters being offered chances to impress alongside the first team players needing sharpness to hit the ground running.

I’m lucky enough to be watching Liverpool this pre-season as they play my local club, and I’m certainly hoping there’s plenty first team players thrown in amongst the youngsters.

In my excitement, I’ve been considering the best pre-season team Liverpool could deploy, and found its actually rather tricky. First, you’ve got the harmless friendlies against clubs in lower leagues, that usually allow youngsters to show off and impress. Then you’ve got the games against Barcelona, Chelsea and AC Milan that will almost certainly see Jurgen Klopp use the majority of his starting players.

It’s hard to create a ‘strongest pre-season team’ because there’s different situations that require different team selections, such as the bigger games closer to the seasons start that will see Klopp deploy his starting team and grind in the tactics he wants to see in the Premier League.

What I’m going to focus on with this team, however, is taking a look at the team I think Klopp could use against the likes of Wigan (the game I’m attending) and Fleetwood – who are lower teams and offer more flexibility and freedom.

There’ll be first team players mixed in amongst the youngsters, and I’ll provide the reasons why I think these players could/should be selected.

If you can’t tell, I’m just getting impatient in missing watching Liverpool play. Let us know what pre-season team you’d like to see deployed in the earlier games in the comments down below or equally Tweet me the team you’d like to see start!

I’ll be sticking to a 4-2-3-1 formation for this squad.
