Who would you pick for a Belgium start? Has Romelu Lukaku been good enough or is time for a change with Divock Origi?

Lukaku has manged to secure a start in all three group games and the round of 16. So far in the tournament he has only managed to score twice and the two goals netted were in a single game -this only coming in the second half of the game may I add.

Looking at the two strikers form throughout the season of 2015/2016, each striker being on either side of the Merseyside. The one who displayed better form early in the season hitting a total of 25 goals in 46 matches including 7 assists.

The other (Divock), has not been that deadly, but faces better competition in his Merseyside outfit, and has been playing at a higher level in all competitions compared to his counterpart, Lukaku. Origi managed to net 10 goals in 34 appearances and only adding 3 assists to his name.

When acknowledging these two’s past season it would be hard to choose between the two, but this is a cup competition and we cannot argue the fact, Divock Origi is the better center forward of the two.

For Belgium in the world cup he exceeded expectations and it granted him a move to Anfield. This should have been taken into consideration coupled with the fact he did so well at club level in all competitions and played in more important games compared to Lukaku.

Don’t get me wrong, Lukaku has been lively and helped the team here and there, but he just hasn’t been good enough to be starting the whole tournament over Origi.

Origi suits Belgium’s style of play. He fits in well with the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Dries Mertens. You could see the game change and the impact Mertens and Origi brought in the first game when they were outplayed by a solid Italian team.

They have made it to the quarter-finals now and stand a good chance to take this cup. They need to play Origi in my opinion. Lukaku’s Euro record speaks for itself, 2 goals in 4 games with the amount of attempts he’s had on goal. it would only be fair to give Origi ago.
