7. Javier Manquillo /// 19 appearances /// 0 goals /// 57 array assertions of “Spain’s future right back”

Manquillo was brought to Liverpool on a two year loan from Atletico Madrid where he wasn’t anywhere near budging into the first team. It was a peculiar signing, but with the decaying corpse that once was Glen Johnson being the incumbent right back, Manquillo was welcomed with open arms.

Within the furor of selling Luis Suarez and buying half of Southampton’s first team, Manquillo arrived. He’d only register 19 appearances when Brendan Rodgers switched to a formation that included wingbacks because when he found himself anywhere in the attacking side of midfield, you could tell he had an internal alarm going off that was begging for him to retreat.

Javier “One For The Future” Manquillo has since returned to Atleti and has been re-loaned.
