Former Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels admitted to regularly fighting with ex-manager Jurgen Klopp when the two worked together.

On the field, Mats Hummels comes off as a polar opposite than Jurgen Klopp does on the touchline.

Hummels is silk, measured and keeps a cool head while Klopp is infamous for his passionate antics up and down the touchline. But Hummels does admit to flaring up out of passion and revealed that it was nothing out of the ordinary to exchange heated words with his former manager.

“You can always have a discussion with your coach and raise your voice,” Hummels told L’Equipe, via FourFourTwo. “It does not happen often with [Germany coach Joachim] Low, but things occasionally got very intense with Klopp. There was a lot of emotion. We had our fair share of quarrels.”

The defender was quick to confirm that their relationship was fine, they’d get over it quickly.

“But things were all good again an hour later and we understood each other. We had a great relationship,” said Hummels. “I don’t think I’m a difficult person. I’m just someone who can be an emotional person.”

If someone like Hummels would sometimes fight with Klopp, who on the current Liverpool roster could be plausibly seen finding themselves in heated discussions with the manager?

Dejan Lovren has to lead that list. The passionate defender who recently had a public dust up with his national team manager. He told the Croatian manager that if he wasn’t going to start then not to bring him. So he wasn’t brought to the Euros. Cold world.

Another likely figure could be Lucas Leiva. I could see some playing time frustration boiling over. Maybe a wayward pass in training ends up near Klopp’s feet and instinct takes over for Lucas and he lunges in two footed to regain possession.
