Liverpool haven’t got many long serving players with the departure of Martin Skrtel. Here are the seven longest.

Of these seven players, just one of them predates 2010. None have been here for a decade, which bolds how dark the majority of Liverpool’s recent history has been since Rafa Benitez left.

That’s how it goes in supboptimal times: change is rife. The best players leave and the ones that aren’t good enough go as well, and Liverpool surely have had a number of the latter.

With the current squad there’s optimism that the core will push on and be there for years, the likes of Emre Can, Jordan Henderson, Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho, Nathaniel Clyne, Loris Karius and others.

But for now, it’s not a deep list. No debuts nor transfers are all that far in the rear view mirror. Liverpool appear to be firmly exiting from the dark times, though. Hopefully no more borderline midtable Premier League finishes, no more disappointing managerial changes and no more insipid, boring football.

With Jurgen Klopp and the culture he’s establishing, there should be those players who stick around a while. It’s natural with new managers that big changes come in and Klopp has just penned a six year (!!!) extension to stay with the club, offering stability to a club who hasn’t had it.

To boot, of the seven on this list, at least three are likely to leave.
