What I think is Liverpool’s strongest starting line-up heading into next season

Well, everybody seems to be making the Liverpool line-ups they want to see next season. Just head on over to Twitter, and you’ll find a mass of fans providing you with different formations containing their preferred players.

I thought I’d join in, but try my best to avoid just picking the players I prefer and like, instead looking at which players will best compliment each-other and serve the team well.

Jurgen Klopp has used the 4-2-3-1 since arriving at Liverpool, sticking with 2 holding midfielders, 3 attacking midfielders and 1 striker/centre-forward. At Borussia Dortmund he often used this formation with wingers instead of a trio of attacking midfielders. Liverpool lack wingers (or did) so Klopp used players like Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana on either side of that attacking midfield, but ensuring they push wide when they can to add more width.

Even in preseason Klopp, while making it clear he is implementing and working on his tactics, hasn’t strayed from this style of formation. This ‘strongest eleven’ will stick to that formation, because Jurgen Klopp shows no signs of changing that at the moment.

I’ll go through each position, revealing the player I’d start in that position and the reasons behind my thinking, before finishing this article with my proposed substitutes bench.

Of course, my choices might be different from yours or the majority of people on social media, so feel free to comment below with the players you would like to see in Liverpool’s starting eleven next season.

We still have plenty of time left to sign additional players, so you could well see and update of this article if we sign anybody who can make their way into this team. Hopefully any future additions are quality players that can benefit the squad next season.
