Thanks to a bevy of summer signings that’s added dynamism to the squad, Liverpool have tons of options to play this season.

Regardless of how you may feel about a combined £55million doled out for the combination of Sadio Mane and Gini Wijnaldum, they’re in the team now and modern football is a funny place in which Brad Smith, Jordon Ibe and Sergi Canos are worth more than £25million, so don’t worry about the fees.

There’s one thing that’s undeniable about the pair: they each add something different for Jurgen Klopp. There aren’t any players on the team like either of them. That’s been a problem with Brendan Rodgers teams in the past: Liverpool had many players in the mold of Adam Lallana. Technical, dribbling, creative players. They’re great and all, but if the team is filled rather exclusively with them, there’s not enough variation.

With Mane, they have someone with incredible pace. Even faster than Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings, who operate in different positions (mostly), anyway. The Senegalese attacker gives Klopp something different.

Wijnaldum gives Liverpool something they haven’t had since Steven Gerrard’s prime: a constant stream of goals from the midfield. Philippe Coutinho is fantastic, but he’s not a consistent finisher. Roberto Firmino had patches of regular goal scoring but that usually came when he was played at striker. And it’s unclear if Lallana actually knows which direction the goal is located at times.

The point is while Liverpool’s first choice XI might be blurred, unlike Leicester who knew exactly who they’d start just about every match last year barring suspension or the rare injury for that team, they’ve got more than enough options if Plan A doesn’t go according to plan. Hell, they don’t particularly even have a Plan A when it comes to personnel.

If everyone in the team are fit and available for selection, the team is subject to change regularly based on form and rotation. There’s just so many first choice options.

It’s a good problem to have. Here are some of the squads that Liverpool are liable to put out. At this time, they’ve yet to sign a left back as they’re rumored to do so before the window shuts, explaining the constant sight of Alberto Moreno.
