Liverpool preseason/July squad rankings: Who’s king?
By Tom Bogert
7. Divock Origi
Against AC Milan, Origi’s preseason debut after his exploits with Belgium this summer, the striker returned exactly where he left off last season: prolific and exciting.
By the end of the night, he saw two shots find the back of the net, one of which wrongly ruled offside. Both were fantastic finishes, especially the one that counted. He took a lobbed ball in behind from Alberto Moreno, turned to his defender just inside the corner of the 18, ran a few stepovers, sent him to pick up his dry cleaning then fired into the bottom corner. Beautiful goal.
Origi is pushing Sturridge hard to start for Liverpool in Klopp’s one striker system. There will be times when they play together and they might force Klopp’s hand to do it more often.
At least Liverpool won’t be reliant solely on Sturridge and his glass legs for the entirety of the season.
Next: 6. Adam Lallana
